About
The Rail Transportation and Engineering Center (RailTEC) in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Illinois of Urbana-Champaign hosts the Railway Engineering Short Course. This course is taught over a week time frame on the University of Illinois Urbana campus. Key topics include:
- Track systems and infrastructure components
- Track structural analysis and design
- Locomotives, rolling stock, and train performance
- Rail project design and construction
The course will engage attendees in interactive lectures, relevant case studies, small group discussions and site visit and lab tour to learn about the practical aspects and science behind railway engineering and transportation concepts.
Summer 2022 will feature 2 virtual courses to learn about the practical aspects and science behind railway engineering and transportation concepts.

Single Course Registration: $1,050
Participants enrolled in both weeks will receive a $100 discount.

Minimum Enrollment Policy: Each course is subject to a minimum enrollment of ten participants. If a course has fewer than ten registrants on Friday, 1 July 2022 it will be subject to cancellation. If a course is cancelled, a full refund will be given for that course. Participants registered for both courses will be refunded one half the combined registration fee if only one course is cancelled, and a full refund if both courses are cancelled.
Cancellation Policy: Cancellations received in writing by Friday 1 July 2022 will be processed for a full refund of the registration cost. No refunds will be issued after Friday 1 July 2022.
